BOISE, Idaho — Playing for the final time of the regular season, Sacramento State fell to 12th-ranked Arizona, 5-0, on Saturday morning at the Boise State Sand Courts.
It marked the second straight day Sacramento State has played Arizona, and the sixth time the Hornets have faced a nationally ranked opponent this year. Arizona improved to 24-4 with the win.
After 19 regular season matches, the Hornets will turn their attention to the Big West Conference Championship, which runs Friday through Sunday next week in Malibu.
The nationally ranked Wildcats swept each of the five doubles matches today, although it was close at No. 1 where the Hornets' Mikaela Nocetti and Sarah Davis lost by a 23-21, 21-16 score to Olivia Hallaran and Mia Mason. It was Nocetti and Davis that beat Hallaran/Mason yesterday in three sets.
Seedings, matchups and game times for the Big West Championship will come out early next week. Sacramento State (2-17) will take one of the youngest teams in the conference to the tournament, as the Hornets played today with four freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors and two seniors.
