FOLSOM, Calif. — Despite winning the first set of three different matches, Sacramento State fell to Boise State, 5-0, at the Livermore Community Park beach volleyball courts.
The Hornets, who had beaten Santa Clara, San Francisco and San Jose State over the last four days, had their three-game winning streak snapped with today's loss. Sacramento State was hosting a two-day, four-team tournament and finished the event with a 2-1 record. That included victories over both USF (5-0) and San Jose State (3-2) yesterday. Sacramento State, which does not play again until a matchup next Saturday at Cal, saw its record fall to 3-1. Boise State, which lost to San Jose State and beat USF yesterday, improved its record to 3-1.
Sacramento State got first set victories from the doubles teams of Madeline Cannon/Morgan Stanley at No. 1, Shannon Boyle/Lexie Skalbeck at No. 2 and Skyler Takeda/Brie Gathright at No. 4. However, Boise State was able to win the last two sets in all three matches. That included 15-11 third-set wins at Nos. 1 and 2.
The losses for all three of those Hornet doubles teams were the first of the season as each had been 3-0.
Kennedy Kurtz/Sarah Davis (No. 3) and Lana Brown/Hannah Meadows (No. 5) both lost in straight sets, although it was extremely close at No. 5 where Brown and Meadows lost by 21-19, 21-18 scores.
