2017 Beach Season
Posted a 3-16 record in her third year of beach, and played every match with teammate Sarah Davis…the duo played primarily at the No. 3 spot where they went 3-15…also played once at No. 2…two of their wins came against San Francisco, including a 21-19, 19-21, 15-6 victory on March 11 and a 21-16, 21-19 win on April 15…final victory came in straight sets over Cal Poly’s Holland Boege/Raeann Greisen by a 21-19, 21-14 score…that victory against Cal Poly clinched a 3-2 win for the Hornets over the Mustangs…Kurtz and Davis were two of just six players on the Hornets’ roster to play in all 19 matches…a Big West all-academic selection.

2016 Beach Season
Went 5-16 in her second season of beach volleyball, and played with four different partners…that included a 2-4 mark with teammate Lexie Skalbeck, 2-7 with Brigitte Murdock, 1-3 with Skyler Takeda and 0-2 with Hannah Meadows…played at Nos. 3, 4 and 5 in the team’s lineup…played the final nine matches of the season with Murdock…Kurtz was part of doubles teams that defeated duos from Saint Mary’s, 18th-ranked Pacific, CSU Bakersfield and Cal Poly…all five of her wins came in straight sets…a Big West all-academic selection.

2015 Beach Season
In her first season of sand volleyball, Kurtz produced a 7-7 record with three different partners…that included 3-0 with Hannah Meadows, 3-5 with Brigitte Murdock, and 1-2 with Lauren Aikels…the three victories with Meadows came during the final three matches of the season, including a straight set win at No. 4 over Cal, and wins at No. 5 vs. both Cal Poly and Boise State…both of her matches at No. 3 came with Aikels…each of her other 11 matches came at either No. 4 or 5 in the lineup…of her seven wins, six came in straight sets.

High School
A 2014 graduate of Ironwood Ridge High School in Oro Valley, Ariz…played four years of volleyball and competed in three years of track and field for the Nighthawks…during her three seasons on the varsity team, she led the volleyball squad to three straight Div. II Section V titles (2011-13), back-to-back semifinal appearances at the state championships (2012-13), an 87-39 overall record and 30-2 section mark…as a senior, she was named honorable mention all-state, the Southern Arizona Player of the Year, first team all-section, first team all-Southern Arizona and team MVP after leading the team to a 36-9 overall record, a section championship, a No. 10 ranking in the state of Arizona and a semifinal appearance at the state championships…also named first team all-section and first team all-Southern Arizona as a junior after the team went 29-13 overall and 11-1 in section…played both setter and rightside hitter during her three varsity seasons, and over that span, finished with 417 kills, 313 digs, 76 aces and 57 blocks in 197 sets played…the athletic Kurtz was also a star for the Nighthawks’ track and field squad where she broke school records in the 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay…in fact, her 4x400m relay squad won the state championship in 2012 and was the state runner-up in 2013 and 2014.

Parents are Craig and Noel Kurtz…a communication studies major…played club for the Zona Volleyball Club of Tucson, Ariz.…has athleticism in her bloodlines as her mother, Noel, ran track for the University of Arizona where she held the Arizona pentathlon record from 1990-07…father, Craig, played basketball at East Central University in Ada, Okla.
