SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- For the second straight day, the Sacramento State sand volleyball squad dropped a 3-2 decision, this time to Pacific on Saturday afternoon at the Sacramento Softball Complex.

Both the Hornets and Tigers are currently in their first year of sand volleyball, and both teams moved their records to 1-2. All three of Sacramento State's outcomes this season have been decided by 3-2 scores, including a victory against Cal last weekend, and a loss to San Francisco yesterday afternoon.

In today's match, the two teams split the first four matches, and the fifth and deciding match came down to Pacific's Hannah Clancy and Kat Schulz vs. the Hornets' Sydney Kordic and Jessie Genger. This time it was the Tigers' duo that came away with a 21-15, 21-10 victory to clinch the match for Pacific.

Not only have all three Hornet matches been 3-2 outcomes, all of them have come down Kordic and Genger, who always play last in sand volleyball's structure. The Nos. 4 and 5 matches play first, followed by the Nos. 2 and 3, and finally the No. 1 match to conclude the day.

The Hornets received victories from Kayla Beal and Katie Aprile (23-25, 24-22, 15-8 at No. 2), and Lauren Aikels and Sloan Lovett (18-21, 21-15, 15-10 at No. 4). The tandem of Beal and Aprile is now 3-0 this season for the Hornets, including a three-set win yesterday against San Francisco.

Also for Sacramento State, Kelsey Elston and Breanne Menees fell at No. 5 (24-22, 21-11), and the tandem of Hannah Hettinga / Katelyn Ivy lost at No. 3 by a 21-19, 21-10 score.

The Hornets will take a week off before returning to action on Sunday, April 7, when the team hosts both Stanford (12 p.m.) and Saint Mary's (6 p.m.). All home matches take place at the Sacramento Softball Complex on 3450 Longview Drive. No outside food or pets are allowed inside the complex.
