CRCA/USRowing Coaches top 20 poll

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- For the 10th straight year, the Hornet women's rowing squad will compete at the Lake Natoma Invitational this weekend at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center. Racing will take place on Saturday morning and afternoon, as well as Sunday morning.

The eight-team regatta features a powerhouse lineup that includes three teams ranked among the nation's top 10 crews (#2 Cal, #7 Stanford and #8 Brown) and one receiving votes in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches top 20 poll (Notre Dame). Sacramento State, Gonzaga, Alabama and San Diego round out the field. The Hornets are co-hosting the event with Cal.

Saturday's racing features a morning (9:00 a.m.-10:20 a.m.) and afternoon (3:30 p.m.-5:00 p.m.) session. Sunday's schedule will last from 8:00-9:10 a.m. A complete schedule of both days can be found by clicking on the link above the story or by clicking here. In addition, live results of racing will be available by following @NatomaInvite on twitter.

All boats were placed into groups, and will compete against different teams in each round of racing. Sacramento State will compete boats in the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four and second varsity four categories at the regatta.

The Hornets' varsity eight will compete twice on Saturday, including 9:40 a.m. vs. Cal, Notre Dame and Gonzaga. The Hornets return later in the day at 4:30 p.m. to take on Stanford, Notre Dame and Alabama. On Sunday, the Hornets' top boat will compete at 8:50 a.m. vs. Gonzaga, Alabama and San Diego.

Sacramento State's second varsity eight will compete Saturday at 9:20 a.m. and 4:10 p.m.,  and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The team's varsity four will race on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and 3:50 p.m., and Sunday at 8:10 a.m. Sacramento State's second varsity four will compete in a heat Saturday morning at 10 a.m., and, based on that performance, will be slotted into a petite or grand final on Saturday afternoon at either 4:40 or 4:50 p.m.

On Saturday, Sacramento State will be racing for the first time since taking part in the San Diego Crew Classic on March 24-25. At that regatta, the Hornets' varsity eight won silver in the Cal Cup grand final, and the novice eight won bronze in its grand final.

This weekend will mark the first of just two remaining home regattas on Sacramento State's schedule. The Hornets will also host the WIRA Championships on April 28-29 at Lake Natoma. This year's American Athletic Conference Championship will take place in New Jersey (May 12), and the NCAA Championships are in Florida (May 25-27).
