Sunday's Results/Points Standings (pdf)
GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- Sacramento State's varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight and varsity four each competed during the second and final day of the sixth-annual Lake Natoma Invitational Sunday morning at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.
The two-day, nine-team regatta featured a powerhouse lineup that included six nationally ranked teams, not to mention five of the top nine programs in the nation. Among those schools at the event are top-ranked Cal, No. 4 USC, No. 6 Brown, No. 7 Stanford, No. 9 Notre Dame and No. 20 San Diego. Oklahoma, which is receiving votes in the poll, also competed in the regatta with Sacramento State and Kansas. The Hornets are co-hosting the event with Cal.
Each of the nine teams were slotted into groups today based on yesterday's heat performances. Cal, Brown and USC were put into Group A, Stanford, Notre Dame and San Diego were slotted into Group B, and the Hornets, Oklahoma and Kansas were put into Group C.
Every school was given the opportunity to compete in five different race categories during the two-day event comprised of the varsity eight, second varsity eight, novice eight, varsity four and second varsity four.
Cal placed first in the varsity eight, novice eight and second varsity four finals while also finishing second in the second varsity eight and varsity four final. Those performances allowed the Golden Bears to claim their fourth Lake Natoma Invitational title (2014, 2012, 2010, 2009). USC won last year and Stanford was victorious in 2011. Trailing Cal in this year's Lake Natoma Invite standings were Brown, Stanford, USC, Notre Dame, San Diego, Oklahoma, Kansas and Sacramento State, respectively.
Today's Hornet varsity eight time of 6:51.2 in the third-level final was just under a second slower than second-place Kansas (6:50.5) and slightly over six seconds slower than first-place Oklahoma (6:45.0).
