NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The Sacramento State women's rowing team placed fourth out of 22 entries in the Women's Novice Eight Final at the 24th-annual Newport Autumn Rowing Festival Sunday afternoon at the Newport Aquatic Center.

The Hornets only competed a novice eight in this year's regatta. Under rainy and windy racing conditions, Sacramento State's novice finished the 2.7-mile course (4,400 meters) with a fourth-place time of 19:38, trailing first-place UCLA (18:53), USC (19:07) and San Diego (19:32).

The Hornets finished ahead of crews from San Diego State, Orange Coast College, UC San Diego, Oklahoma, UC Irvine and Long Beach State. Complete results from the race can be found by clicking on the link above the story.

The Newport Autumn Rowing Festival marks the second and final regatta of the fall season for Sacramento State. The Hornets do not open the spring season until March.
