ROWING CLAIMS ITS 11TH JEAN RUNYON CUP WITH VICTORY OVER UC DAVIS

GOLD RIVER, Calif. – Sacramento State posted victories in the varsity eight, novice eight, varsity four and novice four competitions Saturday morning in women's rowing action at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center.

The Hornets won handily in each race, posting victories of at least 4.6 seconds in all four races. That included the Hornets' varsity eight racing to a time of 6:44.8, more than 13 seconds faster than UC Davis' time of 6:58.1. Sacramento State's second varsity eight also raced in the varsity eight competition and posted a second-place time of 6:53.7.

The victory in the varsity eight allowed Sacramento State to claim its 11th Jean Runyon Cup, a prize both schools have battled for annually since 1997. Sacramento State now owns an 11-4 record against UC Davis over that time. The Aggies' rowing squad had been a varsity sport until last year, and is currently in its first year of club status.

Crews raced in ideal conditions today, battling just a slight breeze. In the novice eight, Sacramento State's time of 7:11.0 was 33 seconds faster than the Aggies' time of 7:44.0. The Hornets' varsity four posted a winning time of 7:45.8, and Sacramento State's lightweight novice four won the novice four competition with a time of 8:13.4.
