ROWING’S NOVICE EIGHT FINISHES SIXTH OUT OF 19 BOATS AT THE NEWPORT ROWING FESTIVAL

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – The Sacramento State women's rowing team placed sixth out of 19 boats in the Women's Novice Eight event at the 22nd-annual Newport Autumn Rowing Festival Sunday afternoon at the Newport Aquatic Center.

The Hornets only competed a novice eight in this year's regatta. Sacramento State's novice finished the 2.7-mile course (4,400 meters) with a sixth place time of 19:22.4, trailing first-place San Diego State A (17:32.7), USC A (18:19.2), San Diego A (18:27.5), Stanford A (18:56.2) and San Diego State B (19:16.1). Last year's Hornet novice squad finished eighth at the same event.

The Newport Autumn Rowing Festival marks the second and final regatta of the fall season for Sacramento State. After a scrimmage against Cal on Feb. 27, the Hornets open the spring season at Santa Clara on March 6. Sacramento State has won the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) team title three times in the last four years and six times in the last 11 years.
