9/22/2011

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Over one hundred golfers participated in the inaugural Bob Mattos Memorial Golf Classic at the Sierra View Country Club on Monday in support of the 20 intercollegiate sports at Sacramento State. The tournament’s title sponsor was Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 447.

The event was named after former Sacramento State head football coach Bob Mattos, who compiled the most wins by a football coach in school history.

In all, $26,000 was raised and will go directly into the annual scholarship drive which supports more than 450 Sacramento State student-athletes.

During the festivities, there was a ball drop where a helicopter dropped 1,500 golf balls onto a hole. The first three balls that fell into the hole paid out, and each of the winners are listed below.

1st ball - Brian Boyd (Ball #952) - $750
2nd ball - Milan Vickers (Ball #776) - $500
3rd ball - Paul Kelley (Ball #24) - $250
