FORMER HORNET WALTER BROCK FEATURED ON NCAA WEBSITE
10/25/2007
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Former Sacramento State football player Walter Brock is one of four individuals featured in the NCAA’s new online video focusing on the responsibilities of interns at the headquarters in Indianapolis.
Brock played for the Hornets during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. He began his collegiate career at Saint Mary’s and was one of five Gaels to transfer to Sacramento State after SMC discontinued football. The Modesto, Calif., native started 21 games during his two seasons at defensive tackle and earned honorable mention all-Big Sky Conference honors following his senior season.
Brock earned his bachelor’s degree from Saint Mary’s in the spring of 2006 and later added a master’s degree from Sacramento State in human sport performance. He applied for the NCAA internship this past winter and worked his way through the field of hundreds to earn one of 17 spots.
In his current role, Brock works in the membership services department of the NCAA. He serves on several committees including administrative review, progress towards degree, initial eligibility, supplemental support fund, and APR adjustment.
“I feel like I’ve come full circle,” Brock said. “Having played football, I have the advantage of seeing things through the eyes of a student-athlete and can provide a unique prospective.
“I would not be where I am today if I didn’t have the opportunity to work with Katherine Zedonis and Pamm Hubbard (in the compliance office) at Sacramento State. They taught me a lot and helped me be prepared for the role here. I also would like to thank Dr. Maureen Smith and Dr. Gloria Solomon for working with me during my master’s.”
