MEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO PACIFIC

 STOCKTON, Calif. - The Sacramento State men's basketball team dropped a 75-62 decision at the hands of the Pacific Tigers on Wednesday, November 21 at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 4-1.
Pacific came out of the gates firing, building a 14 point advantage at 23-9 with 8:51 remaining in the first half of play. Sacramento State continued to tick away at the led, cutting it to nine on a three-pointer by freshman Vinnie McGhee, Jr. with :43 seconds remaining in the half, resulting in the halftime score of 32-23.
The second half saw the Hornets open with a quick 4-0 spurt behind layups from seniors Jason Davis and Clark Woods, cutting the Pacific lead to five with 18:12 remaining in regulation. Hornet junior Loren Leath then got on track, as following a first half that saw him go 0-for-3 from the field, Leath connected on a three-pointer and a pair of free throws to cut the Hornet deficit to four at 40-36 with 14:49 remaining.
Pacific then had an answer, posting a 7-0 run over the next 1:17, pushing the advantage back to 11 with 13:32 remaining. Not to be outdone, the Hornets then went on a 7-0 run of their own, which included a Davis free throw, back-to-back field goals from junior Donald Thomas and a driving layup from McGhee Jr., making the score 47-43 with 11:04 remaining.
The Tigers held a 52-45 lead with 9:13 remaining before Woods connected on his third three-pointer in as many attempts to again pull Sacramento State to within four.
Pacific then closed out the game, going on a 12-1 run over the next 4:48, to take their largest lead of the game at 64-49 with 4:45 remaining. The Hornets continued to fight late, as Leath connected on a long three-pointer with 2:57 remaining to pull Sacramento State to within nine, but it was as close as they would get.
Leath led all scorers with 18 points, including 6-of-14 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the three point arc. Woods poured in a season high 13 points, while McGhee Jr. ended the contest with 11 points. Thomas collected a career-high eight rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench, while adding six points.
Pacific was led by juniors Anthony Brown and Bryan Leduc, who scored 16 points apiece, while Brown collected a game-high 12 rebounds.
Sacramento State returns to action on Sunday, November 25 as they host the Santa Clara Broncos. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. at the Hornets Nest.
