5/30/2007

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State junior Jody Johnson became the fourth Hornet to qualify for the NCAA Div. I Outdoor Track and Field Championships as he received an at-large selection in the 200, it was announced today. The meet will take place June 6-9 at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on the Sacramento State campus.

Johnson finished sixth at last weekend’s NCAA West Regional, missing the final automatic qualifying spot by .14 seconds. However, he was given eight at-large berths into the race based upon his time during the season. Johnson enters the meet ranked 10th nationally with a time of 20.64 seconds.

He will join seniors Nancy Searcy, David Nichols and Raphael McFarlane at the championships. Searcy will run the 100-hurdles and is ranked 21st. Nichols is making his third-consecutive appearance in the shot put and enters the meet seeded 15th after placing third at the West Regional with a season-best put of 61-07.00. McFarlane also placed third at the West Regional, running the 100 in a season best 10.43. That time ranks him 24th among the field.
