MEN'S TENNIS EARNS WIN AGAINST WEBER STATE, FALLS AT SAINT MARY'S

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men's tennis team split a pair of matches on Saturday, defeating Weber State in the morning before falling at Saint Mary's in the afternoon.
The Hornets (1-4, 1-0) earned their first win of the season with a 6-1 victory over Weber State at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. After dropping the doubles point, Sacramento State swept all six singles matches — including five in straight sets.
In doubles play, Aliaksandr Malko and Tom Miller earned the Hornets' lone win with an 8-4 decision at No. 2. The other two matches went down to wire but saw the Wildcats prevail, 9-7, at No. 1 and 9-8 (7-4) at No. 3.
Marek Marksoo evened the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5. The Hornets then took the lead behind Sean Kolar at No. 3 who won convincingly, 6-0, 6-1. Javier Millan added a 6-3, 6-2, win at No. 2 before Malko clinched the victory with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1.
Following the win, Sacramento State made the drive to Moraga, Calif., to face the 65th-ranked Gaels. Saint Mary's swept all three doubles matches to claim a 1-0 lead.
The Gaels continued to do some damage in singles play, winning five of the six matches. The Hornets' lone victory came from Marksoo who defeated Seif El Sherbini, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5. Roy Brandys and Jonathan Hultkrantz each forced a third set at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively, before falling.
Sacramento State will play its third match in two days when it hosts UC Davis on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Rio Del Oro.
