MEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO ANOTHER RANKED OPPONENT, THIS TIME OKLAHOMA STATE
2/13/2011
TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State’s Rifat Biktyakov, Vlad Bondarneko, Aleksey Bessonov, Eric West and Ilija Martinoski each won in straight sets to lift the Cowboys to a 6-1 victory over Sacramento State in a non-conference men’s tennis match Sunday morning at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Oklahoma State, which is ranked 55th in the nation, improved to 1-3 on the young season.
Sacramento State, which fell to 37th-ranked Tulsa on these same tennis courts yesterday, dropped to 3-5 with the loss. Four of the Hornets’ five losses this season have come against ranked opposition, and the team has yet to play a match at home.
The lone Hornet victory came at No. 1 singles where senior Kiryl Harbatsiuk defeated Maniel Bains, 1-6, 6-2, and 10-8 in the super tiebreaker. Harbatsiuk has now won each of his last six singles matches. Every other Sacramento State player lost in straight sets today.
Oklahoma State swept all three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point.
Sacramento State returns to action next week for two more road matches at Cal Poly on Saturday, and at UC Davis on Sunday. The Hornets were supposed to play UC Davis earlier this season but the match was postponed because of rain.
