MEN'S TENNIS COMPETES AT BULLDOG CLASSIC

FRESNO, Calif. -- The Sacramento State men’s tennis team opened their short fall season at the 17th annual Bulldog Classic held at Fresno State University this past weekend. Five players represented the Hornets during the first two days of play before the last day (Sunday, Oct. 3) was canceled due to inclement weather.
In addition to earning his first singles win as a Hornet against Nevada’s Stefan Dmitrovic (6-2, 5-7, 6-4), junior Javier Millan advanced to the quarterfinals of Flight A before falling to Fresno State’s Siddarth Alapati, 6-3, 7-6. Freshman Josh Lorentzen also earned his first singles win against Nevada’s Nathan Reix in the Flight B singles round, 7-6, 6-4.
In doubles play, Millan and sophomore Aliaksandr Malko advanced to the semifinal round of the doubles flight before falling to Zach Gilbert and Sky Lovill from Cal, 9-7.
Senior Kiryl Harbatsiuk and junior Jason Smith are currently representing the Hornets in the ITA All-American Championships held at the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. Harbatsiuk (No. 75) and Smith (No. 88) are both currently ranked in the ITA preseason singles rankings. Harbatsiuk is the reigning two-time Big Sky MVP and a three-time first team all-conference selection while Smith has been named first team all-league each of his first two seasons.

The team will reunite to compete later this month at the ITA Northwest Regionals held at Stanford University on October 15-19.
