MEN'S TENNIS ACCOUNTS FOR SIX TITLES AT THE UCSB CLASSIC

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Sacramento State’s Anton Stryhas (Flight A), Kiryl Harbatsiuk (Flight B), Jason Smith (Flight C) and Artur Klimenka (Flight D) each won their respective singles titles at the UCSB Men’s Tennis Classic (Nov. 14-16) at the UCSB Recreation Center tennis courts.

The three-day event was a round robin flight tournament that consisted of players from Sacramento State, UC Santa Barbara, Loyola Marymount and Cal Poly. Stryhas and Smith also teamed to win the Flight A doubles championship while Klimenka paired with Holden Ching to win the Flight C title. Nearly every player at the tournament played three singles matches and three doubles matches during the three-day event.

Stryhas, Harbatsiuk and Smith posted perfect 3-0 singles records to claim their respective titles, with Styhas and Smith each winning their three matches in straight sets. In fact, Stryhas dropped just 12 games during the entire tournament, and Smith dropped just 14 games during his three matches. Klimenka won the Flight D crown after posting a 2-1 record and winning the tiebreaker by virtue of winning the most sets among the four players in the flight.

Stryhas and Smith were able to win the Flight A doubles title by virtue of posting a 2-1 record and winning the tiebreaker. Ching and Klimenka won all three of their doubles matches in Flight C to win the crown.

Eight Sacramento State players competed at the tournament, comprised of Stryhas, Harbatsiuk, Smith, Klimenka, Ching, Marko Starcevic, Jimmy Roberts and Brad Murdoch.

The UCSB Classic marks the final tournament of the fall season as Sacramento State will not play again until opening the spring schedule with matches at UC Riverside and USC on Jan. 24.
