MEN'S TENNIS COMPETES AT POLO RALPH LAUREN ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

TULSA, Okla. - Three members of the Hornets' men's tennis team took part in the prequalifying round of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships, held at the University of Tulsa on Sept. 29-30.

Sophomores Xavier Barajas-Smith and Anton Stryhas, and freshman Kiryl Harbatsiuk represented Sacramento State in the premier hard court event of the fall collegiate season, which featured the top players in Div. I.

Barajas-Smith, the 17th seed of draw four, defeated William Lang of Tennessee in the second round 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, after receiving a first round bye, before falling to Vinicius Bortolatto of Winthrop in a tight match 7-5, 7-5.

Stryhas posted victories in the first two rounds of the prequalifying, defeating Kevin Galloway of Clemson 6-2, 6-4, and Jon Wiegand of Texas 7-6 (4), 7-5. In the third round, however, he tasted defeat at the hands of ninth-seeded Phillip Eilers of Indiana by a score of 7-6 (2), 6-4.

Harbatsiuk, after receiving a bye in round one, fell to the 17th seed of draw three, Tiago Espiritio Santo of Wichita State, 6-3, 6-4.
