MEN'S TENNIS BOUNCES BACK WITH 6-1 WIN OVER NEVADA

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men’s tennis team got back on track with a 6-1 win over Nevada, Saturday afternoon at Cal Poly. With the win, the Hornets evened their record at 2-2. The Wolf Pack dropped to 4-2.
Sacramento State took a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches. Xavier Barajas-Smith and Hague Van Dillen defeated Laurent Garcin and Guerin Smith, 9-7, at No. 1. At No. 2, Gabriel Loredo and Anton Stryhas downed Eldar Dzhafarov and Guillaume Tonelli, 8-4. The Hornets completed the sweep at No. 3 where Warwick Foy and Ramon Perez defeated Augustin Myard and Arzhang Derakhshani, 8-5.
In singles play, Sacramento State captured five of the six matches, including the top four in the ladder. Barajas-Smith, who did not compete in Friday’s loss to UC San Diego, returned to defeat Tonelli, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (3) at No. 1. Stryhas, Loredo and Foy each had an easier time in their respective matches.
Stryhas beat Garcia, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2. Loredo defeated Dzhafarov, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 3 and Foy beat Myard, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 4.
Nevada’s one win came at No. 5 where Alex Daruty edged Van Dillen in three set, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Tim Lantin capped the Hornet victory with a 6-4, 6-2, win over Derakhshani at No. 6.
Sacramento State will return to the courts on Sunday as it faces host Cal Poly.
