SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara was victorious in all six singles matches on the way to a 6-0 win over Sacramento State in a non-conference men’s tennis match Thursday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center. With the victory, the Broncos improved to 12-12 this season, including 6-2 on their home courts. Sacramento State dropped to 11-8. Coupled with the team’s loss at Pacific on Sunday, the Hornets have now dropped consecutive matches for the first time all season.
The two teams elected to begin the match with singles play as rain was in the forecast for the late afternoon. After the singles matches were completed, both coaches elected not to play the doubles competition.
Junior Gabriel Loredo (No. 2 singles) was the only Hornet to take his match into the third set, losing 10-8 in the super tiebreaker. At No. 3, junior Warwick Foy lost both sets, 7-6, including 10-8 in the second-set tiebreaker.
Sacramento State looks to get back on the winning track as the team returns home tomorrow (Friday, April 14) to take on Nevada at 1 p.m.
The Hornets have just three regular-season matches remaining before the Big Sky Tournament begins, (April 27) including two at home. Sacramento State is 5-1 and has won three in a row on the home courts this season.
