MEN’S TENNIS KNOCKS OFF EASTERN WASHINGTON, IMPROVES TO 4-0 IN THE BIG SKY

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junaid Hossain, Warwick Foy, Thomas Morton and Ramon Perez each picked up victories to lead the Sacramento State men’s tennis team to a 5-2 victory over Eastern Washington Friday afternoon at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.

With the victory, the Hornets won their third match in a row and improved to 8-5 overall and 4-0 in the Big Sky Conference. Sacramento State has now knocked off Big Sky foes Northern Arizona (4-3), Weber State (7-0), Idaho State (5-2) and Eastern Washington (5-2). With the loss, Eastern Washington dropped to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the Big Sky.

Sacramento State began the match by winning the doubles point as the tandem of Hossain and Gabriel Loredo (No. 1), and Paul Komorniczak and Hague Van Dillen (No. 3) each posted victories.

In singles play, Hossain (7-5, 6-3 at No. 1), Foy (6-2, 6-4 at No. 3), Morton (6-2, 6-1 at No. 4) and Perez (6-2, 6-1 at No. 5) each won in straight sets for the Hornets. Foy improved his singles record this year to a team-high tying 10-3. Hossain improved to 9-4, including 8-4 as the Hornets’ No. 1 singles player. Hossain and Loredo also improved to 11-2 at the No. 1 doubles spot this year.

Sacramento State returns to action next weekend as the team travels to Montana State (April 1) and Montana (April 2) for two more Big Sky matches.
