MEN'S TENNIS EDGED BY FRESNO PACIFIC, 4-3

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Fresno Pacific captured the doubles point and rallied for three singles victories en route to a 4-3 win over the Sacramento State men''s tennis team Thursday afternoon at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.

The Hornets won the No. 1 doubles match as Junaid Hossain and Gabriel Loredo recorded an 8-2 win over Petr Stinikov and Marco Foelz. However, the Sunbirds won at No. 2 and No. 3 to earn the point. Matt Carroll and Anthony Zafiris defeated Warwick Foy and Ramon Perez, 8-6, at No. 2 and Victor Medina and Roberto Bianco won 8-6 at No. 3 over Hague Van Dillen and Paul Komorniczak.

In singles play, Sacramento State won at the top two spots. Hossain dropped the first set against Carroll but bounced back to win , 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 2, Loredo cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Stinikov. The Hornets also earned a point at No. 4 when Bianco was forced to retire in the third set. Prior to his injury, the match was tied at 1-1.

Fresno Pacific needed three sets for two of its three singles win. Zafaris overcame an early deficit at No. 3 and won, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Foy. Foelz also dropped his first set but managed a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Perez at No. 5. Medina had the lone straight-sets win, downing Van Dillen, 6-3, 6-3.
