BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State got straight-set victories from each of its singles players and won two of the three doubles matches to defeat Sacramento State, 7-0, in a Big Sky Conference men’s tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.With the victory, Montana State improved to 10-9 overall and 3-0 in the Big Sky. Sacramento State had its three-match winning streak snapped and lost for the first time all year in conference play. The team is now 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the Big Sky.
Sacramento State will close Big Sky regular-season play tomorrow (Sunday) at 10 a.m. against Montana in Missoula. The Big Sky Tournament begins April 27 in Pocatello, Idaho.
The only victory for the Hornets during the day came at No. 1 doubles where the tandem of Junaid Hossain and Gabriel Loredo teamed to beat Marek Gebicki and Kyle McDonald, 8-6. Hossain and Loredo improved to 12-2 in the No. 1 doubles slot this season.
However, Montana State won the other two doubles matches to capture the doubles point. Sacramento State’s Hossain (No. 1; 6-3, 6-2), Loredo (No. 2; 6-4, 6-1), Warwick Foy (No. 3; 6-1, 7-6), Thomas Morton (No. 4; 6-3, 6-2), Ramon Perez (No. 5; 6-2, 6-3) and Hague Van Dillen (No. 6; 6-3, 6-4) each lost in straight sets in singles play.
The loss marked just the second time that Sacramento State had lost by a score of 7-0 this season, and first since the season-opening loss at New Mexico on Feb. 2.
