HARBATSIUK WINS EIGHTH CAREER BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
3/30/2011
Senior Kiryl Harbatsiuk is now 43-3 in dual-match singles matches dating back to last year
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State senior Kiryl Harbatsiuk was named the Big Sky Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after leading the Hornets to a 2-1 record last week. The weekly honor was the second of the season for Harbatsiuk and eighth of his four-year career.
The Minsk, Belarus, native posted a perfect 3-0 record at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. All three of his singles wins came in straight sets, and he combined to drop just 12 games during those three matches. He has now won 17 straight singles matches dating back to early February.
In the Hornets’ win over UC Riverside Saturday afternoon, Harbatsiuk defeated Quoc Doan (6-2, 6-0) before he came back a few hours later to defeat Pacific’s Tomasz Krzyszkowski by a 6-3, 6-3 score. On Sunday, he defeated Northern Arizona’s Hugo Ramadier, 6-1, 6-3. By the time the NAU match ended, he had handily beaten three opponents in a little over a 24-hour span.
In doubles play, Harbatsiuk teamed with Marko Starcevic to defeat a duo from Pacific (8-4) and Northern Arizona (8-6). Harbatsiuk did not play doubles against UC Riverside.
A two-time Big Sky MVP and three-time first team all-conference selection, he is now 17-2 in singles play (all at No. 1), and 10-3 in doubles play this season. Dating back to last year, he is 43-3 in dual-match singles matches.
Sacramento State (10-9) returns to action for a Big Sky Conference matchup at Eastern Washington this Friday, April 1, at 2 p.m. With a win Friday, the Hornets (6-0 in league play) would clinch the Big Sky’s regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in next month’s conference tournament.
