Freshman Daniel Diaz improved to 3-0 in singles play this season with his win on Wednesday

GOLD RIVER, Calif. -- Sacramento State’s Kiryl Harbatsiuk, Jason Smith, Marko Starcevic, Josh Lorentzen, Javier Millan and Daniel Diaz each won in straight sets to lead the Hornets to a 7-0 victory over Northern Colorado in a Big Sky Conference men’s tennis match Wednesday afternoon at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center.

With the victory, the Hornets (8-8 overall) won their fourth straight match and remain perfect in the Big Sky with a 5-0 mark. Each of Sacramento State’s last three wins have come via 7-0 scores, including wins against Montana State and Nevada. Northern Colorado dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-5 with the loss.

Each of Sacramento State’s singles player won in relatively easy fashion, including Harbatsiuk defeating Ryan Lane at No. 1 by a 6-0, 6-0 score. Smith (No. 2; 6-1, 7-5), Starcevic (No. 3; 6-0, 6-1), Lorentzen (No. 4; 6-3, 6-2), Millan (No. 5; 6-1, 6-3) and Diaz (No. 6; 6-1, 6-1) also won handily.

Harbatsiuk, who was named the Big Sky’s Player of the Week this morning, won his 14th straight singles match and improved to 14-2. Millan (four straight), Smith (four straight), Starcevic (three straight), Lorentzen (three straight) and Diaz (three straight) all added to their singles winning streaks.

In doubles play, the Hornet tandems of Smith/Millan (8-1), Lorentzen/Diaz (8-3) and Blake Emery/Joe DeGuzman (8-2) were each victorious.

Sacramento State, which is in the middle of a seven-match homestand, returns to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 26, when the team hosts UC Riverside at 1 p.m.
