MEN’S AND WOMEN’S TENNIS DONATE TIME TO THE YOUTH TENNIS LEAGUE

11/4/2010

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Twice a week over an eight-week span, members of both the Sacramento State men’s and women’s tennis teams donated their time to the Youth Tennis League, an after-school program for Sacramento area youth.

The Youth Tennis League was introduced by the United States Tennis Association and started in the Sacramento area by Spare Time Inc. in April of 2010. The program has more than 1,200 kids from Sacramento area elementary schools involved. It introduces kids to the game of tennis at a young age in a fun environment.

Sacramento State players have appeared twice a week at North Highlands’ Frederick Joyce Elementary School on Mondays and Wednesdays for the last eight weeks. The Hornets were represented by at least three men’s players and three women’s players at all 16 sessions.

Both the Sacramento State men’s and women’s tennis teams will open the spring portion of their schedule in January. The women just concluded their fall schedule, while the men will be finished at the end of the week.
