SIX MEN’S TENNIS PLAYERS WILL REPRESENT SACRAMENTO STATE AT THE ALL-AMERICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A school-record tying six men’s tennis players will represent Sacramento State at this year’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships Oct. 3-11 at the University of Tulsa.
The premier hard court event of the fall collegiate season which features the top players in Div. I, senior Anton Stryhas and junior Kiryl Harbatsiuk will compete in the main draw of the doubles competition, becoming the first Hornet doubles team to begin play in the main draw. In addition, Stryhas/Harbatsiuk are ranked 16th in the nation by the ITA in the preseason rankings, the highest ranking ever received by a Sacramento State doubles tandem.
Joining Harbatsiuk and Stryhas in the doubles competition will be senior Holden Ching and junior Marko Starcevic, who will begin play in the qualifying round of the tournament. Ching and Starcevic are currently ranked 47th in the nation (the ITA ranks the top 50 doubles teams) in doubles, marking the first time in school history the Hornets have two ranked doubles teams. In addition, this season will mark the first time the program has seen two of its doubles teams selected to compete at the All-American Championships.
In the singles draw, Stryhas, Harbatsiuk and sophomore Jason Smith were slotted into the qualifying round of the tournament (Oct. 5-7), and Ching, Starcevic and sophomore Jimmy Roberts will play in the prequalifying round (Oct. 3-4). The main draw of the tournament will take place Oct. 8-11. This season marks the second year in a row the Hornets have six players selected to play in the singles competition.
In the preseason singles rankings, Harbatsiuk is 87th and Stryhas is 102nd. The ITA ranks the top 125 players in the nation.
Sacramento State won last year’s Big Sky Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Harbatsiuk, Smith, Stryhas, Starcevic and Ching played at Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively, in the Hornets singles ladder last season.
