LOREDO LIFTS MEN'S TENNIS TO 4-3 WIN OVER SAN FRANCISCO

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Senior Gabriel Loredo rallied for a three-set victory to secure a 4-3 win for the Sacramento State men’s tennis team over San Francisco, Saturday afternoon at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
The Hornets, who are ranked 73rd nationally, improved to 15-4 overall and won for the 11th time in their last 12 matches. The Dons dropped to 9-12.
With the match tied, 3-3, Loredo defeated Falko Heuttenberger, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, to raise his record to 16-3 on the season.
Sacramento State picked up the first point of the match, winning two of the three doubles tilts. USF struck first when Huettenberger and Asaf Cohen defeated Warwick Foy and Tim Lantin, 8-2, at No. 3. However, the Hornets rallied to win the final two matches. Anton Stryhas and Loredo defeated Matthew Berry and Thong Tu, 8-4, at No. 1 and Xavier Barajas-Smith teamed with Hague Van Dillen for a 9-8 (9) win over Tornin Ching and Rainer Nachbauer at No. 2.
In singles play, Lantin downed Mitch Del Rosario, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 6 to give Sacramento State a 2-0 lead. Berry knocked off Barajas-Smith, 7-6 (5), 6-3, at No. 1 for the Don’s first point. Stryhas, who is the reigning Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, stretched Sacramento State’s lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 7-5, win over Tu at No. 2.
The Dons pulled even with two wins in the middle of the ladder. Cohen battled past Foy, 6-4, 7-6 (6) at No. 4, and Nachbauer slipped past Van Dillen, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 5.
The Hornets will return to action on Mon., April 9, when they host Pacific at 1 p.m. at Rio Del Oro.
