MEN’S TENNIS DISMANTLES NORTHERN COLORADO, IMPROVES WINNING STREAK TO FOUR

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Anton Stryhas, Xavier Barajas-Smith, Gabriel Loredo, Ramon Perez and Tim Lantin each won in straight sets to lead Sacramento State to a 7-0 victory over Northern Colorado in a Big Sky Conference men’s tennis match Thursday afternoon at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
With the victory, the Hornets improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the Big Sky. In addition, Sacramento State has won a season-best four straight matches, and all four contests have come by scores of either 6-1 or 7-0. Today’s match begins a stretch in which Sacramento State will play four home conference contests over a span of five days.
With the loss, Northern Colorado, which is entering its first year in the Big Sky, dropped to 3-14 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
The Hornets began the match by easily winning the doubles point as the tandem of Lantin and Hague Van Dillen won at No. 3 by the score of 8-0.
In singles play, Stryhas (6-0, 6-2), Barajas-Smith (6-2, 6-1), Loredo (6-1, 6-2), Perez (6-0, 6-2) and Lantin (6-2, 6-0) each won in convincing fashion. Warwick Foy, who was playing at No. 4, needed a super tiebreaker to defeat the Bears’ Kyle Barrett, 6-0, 6-7 (5), 10-7.
The Hornets will also play Montana State (March 23, 1 p.m.) Northern Arizona (March 25, 1 p.m.) and Montana (March 26, 1 p.m.) during their season-long four match homestand.
