SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men’s tennis team won six of the seven matches played on Friday and cruised to a 6-1 win over Nevada at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. The victory halted a two-match losing streak for the Hornets and raised the team’s record to 12-8.Sacramento State took the doubles point with wins at the top two spots and a default victory at No. 3. Junaid Hossain and Gabriel Loredo teammed at No. 1 to defeat Guillaume Tonelli and Milos Popovic, 8-3. Warwick Foy and Ramon Perez added an 8-5 win at No. 2 over Eldar Dzhafarov and Rafal Stupka.
In singles play, the Hornets added four more victories as well as a second default at No. 6. Loredo defeated Popovic, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2. Foy also added a straight-sets win over Dzhafarov, 6-1, 6-3. In the bottom half of the order Sacramento State was pushed to three sets before claiming the win. Thomas Morton defeated Stupka, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, at No. 4 and Hague Van Dillen recorded a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4, win over Max Volger at No. 5.
Nevada’s on win came at No. 1 where Tonelli downed Hossain, 6-3, 6-3.
Sacramento State will close out its home schedule on Thur., Apr. 20, against Fresno Pacific.
