MEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS LOYOLA MARYMOUNT, FALLS TO PACIFIC OVER THE WEEKEND

STOCKTON, Calif. – One day after knocking off Loyola Marymount, 5-2, at home, the Sacramento State men’s tennis team finished the weekend by falling at Pacific, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the Hal Nelson Tennis Courts.

With the split over the weekend, the Hornets moved their record to 11-7 this season and the team has now won nine of the last 13 matches. Loyola Marymount dropped to 11-10 with the loss, and Pacific improved to 12-6 with the victory.

On Saturday against Loyola Marymount, the Hornets gained the doubles point before seniors Junaid Hossain (No. 1) and Thomas Morton (No. 4), junior Ramon Perez (No. 5) and sophomore Hague Van Dillen (No. 6) each picked up singles victories. Morton, Perez and Van Dillen each won in straight sets while Hossain defeated Nico Terrien, 6-2, 5-7, 11-9.

With the victory, Sacramento State improved to 6-1 on its home courts this season. The Hornets play just two more home matches this year (April 14 vs. Nevada; April 20 vs. Frenso Pacific).

On Sunday against Pacific, Sacramento State gained the doubles point for the fourth match in a row, but the Tigers won five of the six singles contests. Van Dillen (No. 6) was the only Hornet to win in singles play, defeating Austin Kakar, 6-4, 6-0.

The Hornets’ doubles tandems of Hossain/Gabriel Loredo (No. 1) and Van Dillen/Paul Komorniczak (No. 3) each posted victories.

Sacramento State will play the first of four remaining regular-season matches on Thursday, April 13, at Santa Clara at 3:30 p.m. The Hornets begin Big Sky Tournament play on April 27.
