With the victory, Sacramento State has now won three of its last four matches while improving to 5-4. UC San Diego, which is the 14th-ranked team in the Div. II ranks, dropped to 6-7 on the season. Six of those seven losses have come against Div. I schools.

Loredo, who transferred to Sacramento State prior to the season from Wichita State, has now won six singles matches in a row. Foy won his fifth-straight contest and Hossain improved his winning streak to four. All three players are now 7-2 in singles play this season.

The doubles tandems of Hossain/Loredo, and Foy/Ramon Perez each posted victories to give Sacramento State a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

At the No. 1 singles spot, Hossain knocked off Brent Molden (6-3, 6-4) and Loredo defeated Eric Rubens at No. 2 (6-2, 6-1). Foy took three sets to defeat Blake Meister at the No. 3 singles spot by the score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

The Hornets’ Hague Van Dillen (No. 4), Thomas Morton (No. 5) and Paul Komorniczak (No. 6) each lost in straight sets in their singles matches.

Sacramento State continues to struggle in the bottom half of this year’s singles latter, posting a combined 8-19 record at the Nos. 3-6 spots. Conversely, the Hornets’ Nos. 1-3 players (Hossain, Loredo and Foy) have combined for a 21-6 record this season.

The Hornets play their second of a three-match road trip tomorrow (Wednesday, March 15) at Azusa Pacific at 2 p.m. Sacramento State concludes the three match, four day trip on Friday, March 17, at Vanguard.
