SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State junior Gabriel Loredo was named Big Sky Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after combining to post a 2-0 record at the No. 2 singles spot and a 2-0 record at No. 1 doubles with teammate Junaid Hossain.In the Hornets’ 4-3 loss at Saint Mary’s on Friday, Loredo defeated Martin Marechal, 7-5, 6-1, and won handily in doubles play, 8-4. The next day, he led Sacramento State to a 7-0 victory over Gonzaga by defeating Marco Pineda, 6-2, 6-0 in singles and combining with Hossain to win, 8-3, in doubles play.
Loredo, who transferred to the Hornets this year from Wichita State, is now 4-2 at the No. 2 singles spot and 5-1 at No. 1 doubles this year. He has won each of his last three singles matches and four of the last five, and has won five-consecutive doubles matches.
Sacramento State (3-3, 1-0 Big Sky Conference) returns to action for three matches this week on Friday-Sunday, March 3-5. The Hornets will play home matches on Friday (Weber State at 3 p.m.) and Saturday (UC Davis at 1 p.m.), and a road contest on Sunday (Santa Clara at noon).
