SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State men’s tennis team snapped its seven-match losing streak with a 4-2 Big Sky Conference win over Montana, Sunday afternoon at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. With the win, the Hornets are now 9-13 on the year and finish 4-2 in the Big Sky. The win clinched the third seed for the Hornets entering the Big Sky Tournament, April 28-30 in Phoenix, Ariz. Sacramento State will face the sixth-seed, who is too be determined. The Grizzlies fell to 5-12, 1-2 in the Big Sky.The doubles matches were not played due to travel time constraints for Montana.
At the one, senior Joakim Rydberg defeated Colin Mascall, 7-5, 6-3. At the two, junior Thomas Morton defeated Varun Giri, 6-2, 6-2. At the three, senior Peter Farkas dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Stuart Wing. Sophomore Warwick Foy also lost his match, dropping a tough 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 decision to Gus Treyz at the four. Sophomore Ramon Perez picked up an easy win at the five over Jim Strauch, 6-2, 6-1. At the six, sophomore Will McAlister won his match over Doug Shryock, 6-0, 6-2.
Sacramento State’s next match will be in the Big Sky Quarterfinals on Thursday, April 28.
