SANTA CLARA, Calif.- The Sacramento State men''s tennis team for the second straight day, and fifth time in the last seven matches, dropped another heartbreaking 4-3 loss at the hands of Santa Clara, Saturday evening at the Delgheri Tennis Center. The Hornets have now lost seven straight, and fall to 8-13 on the year.Sacramento State earned the afternoon''s first point, clinching doubles play with a 9-7 victory by Peter Farkas and Junaid Hossain at the top doubles slot.
In singles action, Eric Kochanski and Jan Macek finished within seconds of each other to put the Broncos ahead 2-1. Zepponi followed with his historic win, and freshman A.J. Kerin clinched the team victory at No .6 singles.
The Hornets earned their singles points with a 6-2, 6-2 win by Joakim Rydberg at the top slot and with a super-tiebreak victory on the fifth singles court.
Sacramento State returns to action tomorrow as they close out the regular season against Montana at 1 p.m. at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. Farkas, the lone senior, will make his final home appearance in a Hornet uniform. The Hornets can clinch the third seed for the Big Sky Conference Tournament, April 28-30 in Phoenix, Ariz., with a win over the Grizzlies. The Hornets are currently 3-2 in the Big Sky.
