MEN’S TENNIS FALLS TO UC SAN DIEGO, 5-4

LA JOLLA, Calif.  - The UC San Diego men''s tennis team held on for a narrow 5-4 victory over Sacramento State Sunday afternoon at the Northview Tennis Courts on the UCSD campus.

With the win, the Tritons improved to 11-5 overall while Sacramento State dropped to 8-10. The Hornets have now lost four-consecutive matches by one point after winning a season-high four straight from March 19-24.

The Tritons jumped out to an early 2-1 lead as Brent Molden and Seth Spector teamed for an 8-6 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot while Bryan Swatt and Will Phan combined for an 8-5 win the No. 2 spot on the doubles ladder.

Sacramento State received singles victories from Thomas Morton (6-3, 6-4 at No. 2), Warwick Foy (6-3, 1-6, 7-6 at No. 4) and Ramon Perez (6-3, 4-6, 7-5 at No. 5). Four of the six singles matches lasted three sets, including Peter Farkas’ loss to UC San Diego’s Spector (4-6, 6-2, 7-5). Swatt defeated Sacramento State’s Joakim Rydberg at the No. 1 spot (6-0, 6-2) and Phan knocked off William McAlister (6-2, 6-7, 6-2) at No. 6.

Sacramento State returns to action tomorrow (Monday, April 11) as the team travels to Irvine, Calif., to take on 75th-ranked UC Irvine.
