SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento State men’s tennis team increased its season-high winning streak to four matches with a 5-2 victory over New Orleans Thursday afternoon at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. With the win, the Hornets (8-6) have now won six of their last seven matches and opening the season with a 2-5 record. Sacramento State is the middle of a season-long five game homestand as the team hosts Montana State (April 1), San Francisco (April 2) and Portland (April 3) on back-to-back-to-back days.
The Hornets swept all three doubles matches to gain the point as the tandems of Matt Jones/Peter Farkas (No. 1), Joakim Rydberg/Warwick Foy (No. 2) and Juniad Hossain/Ramon Perez (No. 3) each posted victories.
Sacramento State then won four of the six singles matches. Jones knocked off Pierre Ros-Barbier, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 2 position and Hossain knocked off Saif Ali at the No. 3 spot (6-2, 6-3). Thomas Morton won at No. 4 over Patricio Rodriguez, 7-5, 6-3, and Peter Farkas completed the victory at the No. 6 spot over Julien De La Mettrie, 6-3, 7-5. Farkas improved to a team-best 8-4 in singles play this year.
Sacramento State will try to better its Big Sky record to a perfect 4-0 with Friday’s home match against Montana State.
