The Hornets started the day by winning two of the three doubles matches to claim the point. At the one, junior Juniad Hossein and sophomore Joakim Rydberg fell to Michael Chin and Justin Garcia, 8-5. At the two, seniors Matt Jones and Peter Farkas defeated Jayce Fitch and Bastien Bartels, 8-5. Sacramento State claimed the doubles point at the three where sophomores Warwick Foy and Ramon Perez defeated Jordan Combs and Casey McMakin, 9-8 in the tiebreak.

In singles play, Jones won in his first start of the year, defeating Chin, 6-4, 6-4, at the one. Hossein fell to 0-2 on the year with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Fitch, at the two. Junior Thomas Morton dropped his match at the three, falling to Daniel Elefant, 6-4, 6-4. Perez came back from losing the first set, then won a second-set tiebreaker then rode a break to a 6-3, third-set win over Combs at the four. Perez’ win clinched the win for the Hornets. Foy improved to 2-0 as he won his match over Daniel Furman, 6-2, 6-2, at the five. At the six, freshman Michael Thomsen dropped a tough 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 decision to McMakin.

Sacramento State returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 16 as the Hornets travel to Fresno to take on No. 54 Fresno State. The Hornets and Bulldogs were originally scheduled to play yesterday but the match was cancelled due to rain. Sacramento State and UC Davis will square one more time this season on Saturday Mar. 12 at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
