MEN’S TENNIS TO FACE CAL IN THE NCAA FIRST ROUND

Men''s Tennis: 2003 Big Sky Conference Champions
SACRAMENTO, Calif. –The Sacramento State men’s tennis team will face No. 4 seed California in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament, it was announced today. The Hornets and Bears are scheduled to meet on Saturday, May 10, time TBA, on the UC Berkeley campus.

The Hornets are making their fourth NCAA appearance in school history. This also marks the third straight year Sacramento State has made it to the tournament after wrapping up their third-consecutive Big Sky Conference championship and fifth title in the last six years with a 4-2 win over Idaho State on April 27.

The Hornets finished the regular season with a 12-15 record overall, 6-2 in the Big Sky Conference. California, who was ranked seventh in the latest ITA poll, is 18-4 overall.

Last year, Sacramento State fell to Stanford, 4-0, in the first round. In 2001, No. 2 UCLA defeated the Hornets, 4-0, in the first round. In 1999, the squad also fell to Cardinal in the first round, 4-0.
