PACIFIC TOO MUCH FOR MEN’S TENNIS

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sacramento State men’s tennis team fell to Pacific, 6-0, Wednesday afternoon at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club. With the loss, the Hornets fell to 9-16 on the year. The Tigers improved to 15-6.

Due to the impending threat of rain, both coaches agreed to cancel the doubles matches.

In singles play, sophomore Matt Jones fell to Arnar Sigurdsson, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot. Junior Nick Sheehan was defeated at two by Lennart Maack, 6-3, 6-2. At the No. 3 spot, freshman Jakub Sliva lost his match to Michael Duong, 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Anders Albertsen dropped his match to Niclas Otte, 6-4, 5-7, 10-8, in the super-tiebreak at the four. Freshman Lewis Van Splunteren lost his match to Vincent Kubler at the five, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Peter Farkas lost 6-0, 6-2, to Maxime Lacroix, at the No. 6 spot.

Sacramento State has now completed the regular season and will return to action next Friday, April 24, at the Big Sky Conference Championships in Portland, Ore. The Hornets’ opponent in the first round has yet to be determined. Sacramento State has won the four of the last five Big Sky titles, including winning the championship in 2001 and 2002.
