Sacramento State began the match by winning two of the three doubles matches to win the point. The tandem of senior Sherif Zaher and freshman Matthew Jones defeated the Lumberjack duo of Daniel Lundstrom and Jonathon John, 8-3. Senior Fabio Jesus and freshman Peter Farkas won their No. 2 match over Adrian Venturi and Jeff Johnson, 9-7 to solidify the doubles’ point. Senior Josh Price and sophomore Nick Sheehan narrowly fell to Thibault Schram and Jeremy Coll, 8-6, at the No. 3 spot.

In singles play, Zaher was defeated by Lundstrom at the one, 6-4, 6-1. Zaher’s singles record fell to11-7. At the No.2 spot, Jesus defeated Schram, 7-6, 6-2. Jones won his No. 3 position match over Johnson, 5-7, 6-1, 7-5. Freshman Ali Abbou improved his record to 11-7 by defeating John, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4. Sheehan was the only other Hornet to drop his singles match, falling to Venturi, 6-4, 6-3, at the five. Farkas won his No. 6 spot match over Coll, 7-6, 6-2.

Sacramento State continues Big Sky regional play tomorrow afternoon against Portland State. The Hornets defeated the Vikings in 2001, 7-0, and own a perfect 4-0 record all-time against PSU. Match time is set for 1 p.m. MDT.
