PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Sacramento State men's tennis team won its
fourth match in a row and 14 of its last 15 with a 4-1 victory over
Weber State at the Big Sky Conference Pacific Regionals Sunday
morning at the Eastmoreland Racquet Club in Portland, Ore.
The Hornets, who already secured the No. 1 seed for the Big Sky
Championships with yesterday's victory over Northern Arizona,
improved their record to 16-2 overall. The conference championships
will take place April 20-22 at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club in
Sacramento. The conference champion receives an automatic berth into
the NCAA Tournament.
Sacramento State's Sherif Zaher (No. 1), Chris Smith (No. 3), Sylvain
Iff (No. 4) and Kevin Vieira (No. 5) were each victorious in singles
play. Each won their respective matches in straight sets.
The No. 6 singles match between Nick Sheehan and Kenneth Lindley did
not finish and the doubles matches were not played because Sacramento
State already secured the necessary four points for victory.
The Hornets will use next week's matches against Nevada (Friday,
April 13) and Idaho (Saturday, April 14) as tune-ups for the
conference tournament. Next week's matches will both be played in
Reno, Nevada.
