SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Sacramento State women's tennis team used
victories from Nos. 1-3 singles players Gabriella Lundqvist, Marta
Gronowicz and Caroline Svensson to beat San Jose State, 5-2, Thursday
afternoon in San Jose, Calif.
With the victory, the Hornets improved to 10-6 overall while San Jose
State dropped to 5-12. Sacramento State is now one victory shy of
tying its Div. I record for most wins in a season, set by the 1992
squad (11-10).
Junior Amber Neumeier also won for the Hornets at the No. 6 spot,
defeating Desiree Garrido, 6-1, 6-0. The Hornets won all three
doubles matches handily to win the doubles point.
Freshman Italina Kirknis, who normally plays at No. 6 for the
Hornets, sat out the match with the flu. Junior Laila Karim had to
retire in her match after injuring herself in the first set.
The Hornets have one more regular season match (at Pacific on Monday,
April 9) before playing at the Big Sky Conference Regionals, April
12-14, in Ogden, Utah.
