SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State men’s tennis players Aliaksandr Malko
and Marek Marksoo
each received the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Scholar-Athlete award.
In order to gain ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must have been a varsity letterwinner and post a grade point average of at least 3.50 during the academic year.
Both Malko and Marksoo were also first team all-Big Sky Conference selections for a Sacramento State squad that won the league’s conference tournament crown and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
Malko, who is a junior, played every match as the team’s No. 1 singles player, finishing the year 7-1 against conference opposition. The Minsk, Belarus, native won eight of his final 10 singles matches of the season, including straight set wins in both the Big Sky Tournament semifinal and championship matches.
Marksoo, who is a freshman, posted a team-best 17-3 record in singles play, ending the year on an 11-match winning streak. The Tallinn, Estonia native began the season as the team’s No. 5 player in the singles lineup before moving all the way up to No. 2 by the end of the year.
