MEN’S TENNIS CAN’T HALT COLUMBIA’S LENGTHY WINNING STREAK

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Columbia won two of the three doubles matches and all six singles matches to beat Sacramento State, 7-0, in a non-conference neutral-site men’s tennis match Saturday morning at the UTA Tennis Center.

With the victory, Columbia (12-2) won its eighth straight match while the Hornets dropped to 3-8 with the loss.

Playing with four freshmen in the singles lineup like they have all season long, the Hornets kept things close in four of the singles matches, but eventually fell.

Sacramento State’s Aliaksandr Malko (3-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1), Javier Millan (6-3, 7-5 at No. 2), Sean Kolar (6-3, 6-2 at No. 3), Marek Marksoo (6-3, 7-6 at No. 4), Roy Brandys (1-6, 7-6, 10-7 at No. 5) and Tom Miller (6-1, 6-2 at No. 6) all lost their singles matches. Malko was playing the nation’s 64th-ranked player in Columbia’s Haig Schneiderman.

In doubles play, the Hornet tandem of Malko and Brandys won their match at No. 3, but the team lost the other two matches.

Today marked the first contest of a stretch that will see the Hornets play four times in five days, including a matchup with UT Arlington tomorrow morning. Sacramento State will also play Drake in Arlington on Tuesday before heading to Flagstaff for a match with Big Sky Conference-foe Northern Arizona on Wednesday.
