MEN’S TENNIS ROLLS TO 6-1 VICTORY AT NORTHERN COLORADO

Freshman Jonathan Hultkrantz won his match in straight sets today at No. 6 singles

GREELEY, Colo. -- Sacramento State’s Aliaksandr Malko, Javier Millan, Roy Brandys and Jonathan Hultkrantz each posted straight-set singles victories to lead the Hornets to a 6-1 victory over Northern Colorado in a Big Sky Conference men’s tennis match Friday afternoon at Work Out West.

With the win, Sacramento State has won three of its last five matches to improve to 3-5 overall and 2-0 in the Big Sky. Using a lineup today that consisted of five freshmen, the Hornets have now won 21 straight matches against Big Sky opponents dating back to the 2010 season. With the loss, Northern Colorado dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.

Malko (6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles), Millan (6-1, 6-2 at No. 2), Brandys (7-6, 6-4 at No. 4) and Hultkrantz (7-5, 6-0 at No. 6) each won in straight sets while Marek Marksoo won his match at No. 5 by a 6-3, 4-6, 10-7 score. Marksoo has now won a team-best five straight singles matches while increasing his season record to 6-1. Hultkrantz improved his record to 4-3.

In doubles play, the Hornet tandems of Tom Miller/Sean Kolar (8-5 at No. 2) and Marksoo/Brandys (8-2 at No. 3) were both victorious to give Sacramento State the doubles point.

All three of the Hornets’ victories this season have come by 6-1 scores.

Today marked the first match of a stretch that will see Sacramento State play three times in as many days, including a neutral site contest against Utah tomorrow in Denver, and a matchup against Denver on Sunday.
