MARKSOO RECEIVES BIG SKY TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES
2/21/2012

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State true freshman Marek Marksoo was named the Big Sky Conference’s co-Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after helping lead the Hornets to a 2-1 record over a two-day stretch last week.
The Tallinn, Estonia, native posted a perfect 3-0 record at No. 5 singles while going 1-1 at No. 3 doubles. He shared this week’s award with Eastern Washington’s Chad Henninger.
Marksoo recorded straight set wins over opponents from Weber State (6-1, 6-1), 65th-ranked Saint Mary’s (6-1, 6-2) and UC Davis (6-4, 6-1), combining to drop just 10 games over that three-match span. Two of those wins came on the same day when the Hornets beat Weber State at home on Saturday and followed that up by making the trip to Moraga to face nationally-ranked Saint Mary’s later that afternoon.
In doubles play, he teamed with partner Roy Brandys to knock off a tandem from UC Davis. His only loss of the weekend came against Weber State where he and Brandys lost at No. 3 doubles in a tiebreaker.
Marksoo has now won four straight singles matches and is a team-best 5-1 in singles play (all at No. 5).
The Hornets (2-4, 1-0) do not return to action until making the trip to Reno to face Nevada on Friday, March 2, at 4 p.m.
