LEGASPI NAMED BIG SKY MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO -- After leading Sacramento State to home victories over both Weber State and Idaho State, junior Hermont Legaspi has been named the Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.

The victories allowed Sacramento State to clinch a berth in the Big Sky Tournament. Legaspi posted a perfect 2-0 record at No. 2 singles, while also going 1-0 at No. 3 doubles. In the process, he combined to drop just seven games over two singles matches as he won both in straight sets.

In the Hornets' win over Weber State on Saturday, the Sacramento native won at No. 2 over Michiel Van Schoor by a 6-1, 6-0 score. Also, in that match, he teamed with Dom Miller to win at No. 3 doubles by a 6-2 score. He followed that up a day later with Sunday's win at No. 2 over Idaho State's Peter Trhac, 6-2, 6-4.

Legaspi has won eight of his last 10 singles matches while improving to 12-7 overall and 6-3 in league play. He has played at four different spots in the Hornets' lineup and was recently moved up to No. 2 in the ladder. In fact, since being moved up to No. 2 full time on March 30, he is 4-1, and now 6-2 overall at the No. 2 slot. In addition, Legaspi is 6-6 in doubles play this season, including a 4-2 mark in league play.

Sacramento State (8-11, 6-3) currently sits in third place in the conference standings with just one regular season match to play. That will be on Saturday at home against Northern Colorado at noon. The Hornets still have a shot to secure the No. 2 seed for the Big Sky Tournament (April 25-27) and receive a first round bye at the event.

Saturday will also mark the final home matches for Sacramento State seniors Donald Hall, Mikus Losbergs, Dom Miller and Bernardo Moraes.
