LOSBERGS NAMED BIG SKY PLAYER OF THE WEEK

SACRAMENTO -- Junior Mikus Losbergs was named the Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after helping Sacramento State to a road split last week, which included a 5-2 win at Idaho State, followed a day later by a 4-3 loss at Weber State.

Losbergs went 2-0 at No. 1 singles, and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles. That included two tiebreaker victories in doubles play, a straight set singles win, and a three-set singles win.

It marks the second time in three weeks a Sacramento State player has received player of the week accolades as Kasparas Zemaitelis earned the honor on March 28. For Losbergs, it was the third time in his career he received the weekly award.

In the Hornets' victory at Idaho State, Losbergs beat Peter Trhac at No. 1 by a 6-4, 7-5 score, and teamed with Zemaitelis at No. 1 doubles to win, 7-6 (6). The doubles win came against Trhac and David Felix who had recently been a nationally ranked doubles team

In the Hornets' loss to Weber State, the Marupe, Latvia, native beat Stefan Cooper at No. 1 by a 5-7, 7-6, 6-2 score. He and Zemaitelis also won at No. 1 doubles by a 7-6 score.

Losbergs has now won four straight singles matches, and five straight doubles matches. He is 6-3 at No. 1 singles vs. Big Sky opposition, and 7-2 at No. 1 doubles against league opponents.

Sacramento State will play later today in its final non-conference matchup of the regular season at home against UC Davis at 2 p.m. All matches this year are being played on campus.
