LEGASPI WINS AGAIN, BUT MEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT SANTA CLARA, 6-1

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Sophomore Hermont Legaspi posted Sacramento State's lone singles win in the Hornets' 6-1 road loss at Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center.

Legaspi has now won two straight, and three of his last four matches, while improving to 4-4 in singles play this season. Playing at No. 4 in today's matchup with the Broncos, Legaspi beat Connor Garnett, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.

The victory allowed Santa Clara to win its eighth straight match while improving to 8-2 overall and a perfect 6-0 at home. The Hornets lost their third straight while falling to 1-7 on the young season.

Today's match was closer than the final score indicated as each of the other five Sacramento State singles players lost at least one set by a 6-4, 7-5 or 7-6 margin. That included Mikus Losbergs falling at No. 1 by a 6-3, 7-5 score, Kasparas Zemaitelis losing at No. 3 (7-6, 6-3), Donald Hall at No. 4 (6-2, 7-5) and Louis Chabut at No. 6 (6-4, 6-4). Dom Miller dropped his match at No. 2 by a 6-4, 6-1 score.

In doubles play, the No. 2 combination of Hall/Miller (6-2) and No. 3 Chabut/Legaspi (6-3) each lost allowing Santa Clara to take the doubles point.

Sacramento State will not leave the area during the entire month of March as the Hornets open what could amount to be an eight-match homestead on Saturday, March 3, vs. Eastern Washington at 1 p.m. The Hornets co-host a tournament with UC Davis (March 9-11) that could see the team play in Davis depending on how the tournament shakes out.

Reminder that all Hornet home matches this season will take place on campus at the Sacramento State Tennis Courts.
